Amarige is not a subtle perfume and it has never pretended to be. Dominique Ropion built it in 1991 around tuberose — the loudest white flower there is — and then added mimosa, gardenia and jasmine on top of it. The name comes from mariage, and the bottle with its frosted shell cap has barely changed in thirty-five years. People either wear it as a signature for decades or they do not wear it at all.
Why you will love this tuberose perfume
This is a true 1990s French floral: rich, sweet, unapologetically big, and built to last through an entire evening on two sprays. The fruit at the top — peach, plum, blackcurrant — stops it from being a plain white floral, and the vanilla, sandalwood and tonka base gives it the warmth that keeps people asking what it is.
- Enormous projection and longevity — one of the strongest florals ever made
- Tuberose, gardenia and mimosa layered properly, not a thin single-flower accord
- Peach and plum on top keep it from feeling old-fashioned
- Vanilla, sandalwood and tonka base adds real warmth and depth
- Large 100 ml bottle at a price far below most modern designer launches
- The frosted shell-cap bottle is a recognised classic on any dressing table
- 100% original Givenchy, delivered across Cairo, Giza and all Egypt with cash on delivery
The scent
It opens in a rush — orange blossom, neroli and mandarin alongside peach and plum, sweet and bright and immediately noticeable. Then the white flowers arrive in full force: tuberose leading, with gardenia, mimosa, jasmine, ylang-ylang and rose behind it, creamy and heady and very rich. Hours later it is still going, settling into sandalwood, cedar, amber, vanilla, tonka bean and musk — warm, powdery and soft in a way the opening never suggests.
Who it is for
For women who want to be remembered and are not interested in a quiet skin scent. For anyone who loves big white florals — tuberose, gardenia, jasmine — and finds modern perfumes too thin. And for evenings, weddings and winter, where a fragrance this rich has the room it needs.
How to use it
Two sprays maximum. This is a strong fragrance, so aim for one on the neck and one on the chest, and skip the wrists entirely if you are going somewhere enclosed. Apply to moisturised skin, do not rub it in, and keep the bottle out of sunlight to protect the florals.
