What it does

Kao calls the formula a lamella platform: care ingredients are held between alternating water and oil layers rather than floating loose in the tube. That structure mirrors the lipid layers inside healthy hair, so the ingredients sit where the hair can take them up during the two or three minutes the treatment is on. Five repair actives do the work — hydrolysed keratin for the protein inside the fibre, ceramide α and olive fatty acid glyceride for the lipid layer outside it, malic acid to close the cuticle, and lanolin acid to soften.

The scent

Bergamot and daphne — crisp citrus over a cool white floral. It is the same accord as the shampoo, so using the pair together reads as one clean finish rather than two competing perfumes.

How to use it

• Shampoo first, then squeeze the water out of your hair — the treatment cannot grip soaking wet hair
• Take about a grape-sized amount for medium length hair, more for long
• Spread it from the mid-lengths down to the ends, never on the scalp
• Comb it through and leave it two to five minutes
• Rinse until the slipperiness is completely gone
