If your hair is damaged, coloured or dry, a mask is the one product that shows a result from the first use. The problem is that the Egyptian market sells masks at 299 EGP and masks at 2,000, and nobody explains the difference. This guide compares the best hair masks in Egypt from Fino, Tsubaki, Skala and K18 — not by sticker price, but by cost per gram and by the problem each one actually solves.
Conditioner, mask and leave-in are not the same thing
Most people use a mask in place of a conditioner, which wastes it. Each one has a completely different job:
| Type | What it does | Leave on | How often |
|---|---|---|---|
| Conditioner | Detangles and seals the cuticle after shampoo | 1–3 minutes | Every wash |
| Mask | Higher concentration that penetrates the fibre and repairs damage | 5–20 minutes | Once or twice a week |
| Leave-in | Stays on the hair and protects from heat and friction | No rinse | Every wash |
| Oil or serum | Coats the strand, adds shine and controls frizz | No rinse | On damp or dry hair |
The simple rule: conditioner is daily maintenance, mask is weekly repair. And if you are only going to spend money in one place, spend it on the mask — shampoo sits on your hair for a minute and rinses away, while the mask is what actually changes the condition of the strand.

The three best-known masks in Egypt, honestly compared
Fino Premium Touch Hair Mask (599 EGP)
This is the mask that became a trend in Egypt for one reason: it delivers a salon result on damaged hair from the first use. Hair comes out soft, glossy and sleek in a way you can see immediately. Its only drawback is the small jar (230g), so if you use it regularly the 700g refill at 1,399 EGP saves you roughly 25% per gram. We compared it against Tsubaki in detail in Tsubaki vs Fino Hair Mask.
Tsubaki Premium EX Repair Mask (899 EGP)
The most expensive per gram, and reasonably so — it is a treatment formula built on camellia oil rather than a cosmetic one. Best suited to coloured and bleached hair and anything chemically straightened. Its first-use result is less dramatic than Fino, but it accumulates better over time.
Skala masks (299 EGP per kilo)
The real value play on the market. A full kilo at 299 EGP works out around 0.3 EGP per gram — nine times cheaper than Fino. It will not give you Fino’s instant slip, but it performs very well over the long run, and it lets you use a generous amount without counting (which is half the secret of getting results from a mask at all). See our guide to the Skala range to choose between them.
The combination we recommend: a Skala kilo tub at 299 EGP for regular weekly use, plus the Fino mask at 599 EGP before occasions. Together that is 898 EGP and covers every situation.
Cost per gram: the comparison nobody runs
The price on the jar is not the right measure. You use a generous amount of mask each time, so what matters is the cost of a single use.
| Mask | Price | Size | Approx. cost per gram |
|---|---|---|---|
| Skala Biotin | 299 | 1000g | 0.3 EGP |
| Skala Maionese | 1,199 | 1000g | 1.2 EGP |
| Skala Lama Negra | 1,299 | 1000g | 1.3 EGP |
| Fino 700g refill | 1,399 | 700g | 2 EGP |
| Fino 230g | 599 | 230g | 2.6 EGP |
| Tsubaki Premium EX | 899 | 180g | 5 EGP |
This does not mean cheapest is best — it means you know what you are paying for. Tsubaki costs nine times more per gram than Skala, which is justified if your hair is coloured and needs a treatment formula, and not justified if your hair is in decent condition and simply needs moisture.
How to use a hair mask properly
- Squeeze out excess water. A mask does not work on soaking hair — it dilutes and slides off.
- Mid-lengths and ends only. Stay well away from the roots or hair goes flat and greasy fast.
- Comb it through with a wide-tooth comb so it distributes evenly — the step that makes the biggest difference.
- Leave it 5 to 20 minutes. Longer adds nothing. A cap or a warm towel improves absorption more than extra time.
- Rinse with cool or lukewarm water to close the cuticle and lock in the shine.
Common mistake: using a mask daily. It causes build-up and leaves hair heavy and dull — the opposite of the goal. Once or twice a week is enough, and if build-up happens use the black mud mask for a deep clean.
After the mask: what holds the result
A mask alone will not hold if your shampoo is harsh or your hair meets heat every day. The full routine is a gentle shampoo, a weekly mask, and an oil or serum on the ends. Pick the right shampoo from our best shampoo in Egypt guide.

Which mask for which problem
- Coloured or bleached: Tsubaki Premium EX, or K18 for severe damage.
- Very dry: Skala Shea Butter or Fino.
- Breakage from weakness: Skala Biotin or Jaborandi & Camellia. (Cosmetic products that strengthen the look and feel of hair, not a medical treatment for hair loss.)
- Heavy, dull hair: Black mud mask to clear build-up.
- Curly hair: see our curly hair routine.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best hair mask in Egypt?
There is no single answer. For an instant result on damaged hair, Fino Premium Touch at 599 EGP. For coloured hair, Tsubaki Premium EX at 899 EGP. For best value per use, the Skala kilo masks at 299 EGP.
Can a mask replace conditioner?
It can, but it should not. A mask is more concentrated and designed for once or twice a week; daily use causes build-up and leaves hair heavy. Conditioner is lighter and built for every wash.
How long should I leave a mask on?
Five to twenty minutes depending on the product. Extra time adds nothing because the strand reaches saturation. A cap or warm towel improves the result more than a longer wait.
How often should I use one?
Once a week for normal hair, twice for coloured or badly damaged hair. More than that causes build-up.
Why is the Skala mask so much cheaper?
It comes in a full kilo tub rather than a small jar, and the brand is Brazilian with a large-size, sensible-price philosophy. The gap works out around nine times per gram versus the Japanese masks, and the formulas differ — Skala is moisture and nutrition, while Tsubaki and Fino are more concentrated treatment formulas.
Does a hair mask stop hair loss?
No. Masks are cosmetic products that improve the strength and appearance of the strand and reduce the breakage that can look like shedding, but they do not treat hair loss. Ongoing shedding has medical, hormonal and nutritional causes that a dermatologist should assess.
What does shipping cost?
